Sylvester William "Bill" O'Quinn was called to his heavenly home on October 8, 2020 at the age of 77. Services will be held on October 22, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo.He is preceded in death by his father, Sylvester O'Quinn; his mother, Frances O'Quinn; his sister, Carolyn O'Quinn; and his sister-in-law, Anita Guy. He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 40 years, Jean Holmes O'Quinn; his daughter, Casey O’Quinn Parten (Mark); his sister, Patricia Ford (Chris); sister-in-law, Denise Wolf; brother-in-law, Revis Guy; ten nieces and nephews; and 14 great-nieces and great-nephews.Bill was born to Sylvester and Frances O'Quinn on March 7, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland. He spent his childhood in Richmond, Virginia, where he graduated from Manchester High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1963. He proudly served in the 82nd Airborne Division until his honorable discharge in 1966. He was a jack-of-all-trades and lived an adventurous life all over the United States before marrying the love of his life, Jean, on December 12, 1980 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The two settled in Akron, Alabama before the birth of their daughter Casey on May 31, 1989. Bill endlessly loved and adored his girls. He worked as a truck driver for many years and received numerous awards for his outstanding achievements in this industry. Bill was a devoted follower of Christ and was an active member of several churches in Akron, Cottondale, and Holt throughout his life. He loved the Lord and had a great desire to lead others to a life with Christ as their Savior. He was an avid outdoorsman and had a heart for animals, especially his dog, CooCoo, and his bird, Waffle.The family would like to thank the medical care team at UAB Hospital for providing comfort and care for Bill during his illness. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the UAB Department of Emergency Medicine to aid needy patients and families, or to donate to their favorite charity in memory of Bill and the legacy he leaves.
