Shirley Hunter

Shirley Ann Coker Hunter of Northport, was born May 13, 1939, passed away Monday, September 13, 2021 at DCH Regional Medical Center. She was 82. Visitation will be held at Magnolia Chapel North at 1:00pm Saturday, September 18, 2021, with service following at 2:00pm, Bro. Tim Baumgarten officiating, and burial at Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery directly after the service. The family requests everyone to please remember that COVID is still a concern and to distance when possible.

Shirley began her career as a telephone operator for South Central Bell and was a drafting clerk for BellSouth when she retired. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her "Jimbo" and her family, and she loved God and her church. She was a member of Northport Free Will Baptist church for nearly 60 years.

Shirley was preceded in death by her mother and father, Evie Brown Coker and William Lawrence Coker; a sister Linda C. Lawson and brother Charles Coker. She is survived by her husband of 60 years James Daniel Hunter; three children Joseph Hunter (Sandra), James Hunter, Jr. (Kelly), Jennifer H. Tucker (Thomas Burroughs); eight grandchildren Ashley, Ross, Jake, Lauren, Daniel, Nicole, Anna, and Laura Beth; and four great-grandchildren Kinleigh, Josie, Harper and Sam; five siblings Joyce Perkins (Charles), Marilyn Elliott (Bert), Bonnie Lynn, Janice Kincaid (Bill), Sonny Coker (Brenda); and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pallbearers will include Ross Hunter, Jake Hunter, Daniel Hunter, Bob Wilson, Thomas Burroughs and Kevin McCauley. Honorary pallbearers are members of Northport FWB church and the Echola community. Donations in her honor can be made to the American Stroke Association, Northport FWB church, or Dunn's Creek Baptist Church.
