Sara Merle Spencer Brunette passed away Monday morning, February 22nd, 2021 at her ancestral home in Northport.  She was born May 31st, 1924 to Charles Ford Spencer and Vera Harper Spencer at Druid City Hospital in Tuscaloosa.
She, her sister Martha Sue Swann and Charles Randolph Spencer grew up during the depression on the family dairy, Oak Ridge.  She was a graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School and worked at the Highway Department before moving to Washington DC to work for US Representative Seldon.
While in Washington, she met her future husband Peter J. Brunette. They were married at her home in Northport, on March 10, 1958.
Together they loved and raised four children: Mary S. Brunette, Peter F. (Olivia) Brunette, Joseph S. Brunette and Sara V. (Michael) Mahoney while traveling between his Naval bases.
After the passing of her husband, she moved back to her ancestral home in Alabama.
She loved the Northport community. She was a faithful member of the Northport United Methodist Church. Her volunteer work with CHOM, Friends of Historic Northport and other organizations lead her to receive the Heritage Pioneer Award in 1995.
She leaves behind 5 beloved grandchildren: Hannah S. (Nick) Honeycutt, Emily M. Mahoney, Christopher J. Mahoney, Grace M. (Michelle) Brunette, Anna K. Brunette and two great grandchildren; Miles Patrick Mahoney and Spencer Fayeth Honeycutt.
A public visitation will be held Saturday February 27th, 2021 at the Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home in Northport, from 10:30- 11:30 am with a short service to follow. There will be a short graveside service at Williamson Cemetery at 12:15 pm.
