He was a Navy man at heart and served in the Vietnam War. After returning home from Vietnam, he went to work for Dupont in Houston, Texas. In more recent years, he used his free time by taking up woodworking as a hobby. His love of birdhouses became his specialty item. He was a member of Central Church of Christ since his arrival to Tuscaloosa in 2009.
