Paul Jerome Owens passed away January 5, 2021.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodfin Lamar Owens and Ida Mae Mccrory Owens, his brothers Leon Winston Owens (Carolyn), Daniel Webster Owens (Betty), and Gaines Aubrey Owens (Myrtle). He is survived by his wife Edna Jay Owens, children Randall Keith Owens, Lynn Owens Williams (Scott), and Philip Jerome Owens (Karen). Two grandchildren Stephanie Williams Guillory (Eddie) and Kimberly Williams Dickey (Scott). Six great grandchildren Cody Guillory, Cameron Guillory, Kelly Dickey, Owen Dickey, William Dickey, and Olivia Dickey.

Paul was born August 26, 1930 in Moundville, Alabama. He graduated from Greensboro High School. Shortly after graduation, he married Edna Jay. They were blessed to celebrate 68 years of marriage. Paul served in the Army during the Korean War. After his discharge, they moved to Newbern. He served on the city council for 33 years, and served as mayor for 12 years.

He worked for and retired from the USDA. He was a member of the Hobson Bethel Methodist Church where he served as chairman of the board. He also served as chairman of the local American Legion. He was a member of the organizing committee of Southern Academy. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, playing golf, and meeting with friends for dominoes. A private family service will be held January 7, 2021.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Newbern Cemetery Fund, Southern Care New Beacon Hospice in Demopolis, or your charity of choice. Honorary pallbearers: Church members and friends in Newbern. Also his compassionate and wonderful caretakers Mashell Hayes and Southern Care New Beacon Hospice.
