Naomia Brown

On November 12, Naomia Brown, age 85, departed her earthly life for her heavenly
home. A celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, November 23 at 1:00 pm at
Carroll's Creek Baptist Church, Highway 69 North, Northport, AL. with Rev. Alan Roggli
officiating. Visitation will precede the service, from 11:30-1:00. Burial will follow at
Memory Hill Gardens Cemetery, on Skyland Boulevard.

She is preceded in death by her dearly loved husband of almost sixty years, Dr.
Jack R. Brown, her son, Brett J. Brown, parents, Lonnie and Estelle Shirley, baby
brother, Lonnie Lee Shirley, Jr.

Survivors include her daughter, Beth Sherman, Northport, AL; grandchildren,
Rachel Sherman, Brooklyn, NY, Jenna Sherman, Washington, DC, Lonnie Brown,
Northport, AL., daughter-in-law Tracy Bigham, Northport, Al, and numerous very
special cousins and other relatives.

Naomia loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ first and foremost. Her husband,
Jack, was next and truly the love of her life. She loved all her family very dearly.
She loved and was so thankful for all her Christian friends. Her greatest desire was
that all her family and friends personally know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and
know that they would meet her one day in heaven. She wanted very much to
leave a legacy of faith in Jesus, love of family, friends and mankind.
During all the years of her husband's ministry (over fifty years), she was very
supportive and very involved when he was a pastor in Mississippi and Alabama,
director of missions in Dale County, AL and associate director of missions in
Tuscaloosa County. She was active in WMU, conducted mission studies, mission
projects, went on a mission trip, taught Sunday School, Discipleship Training, VBS,
led music-led adult and children's choirs, worked with youth, served as church
secretary and associational secretary and played the piano when needed.
Naomia was an active member of Carroll's Creek Baptist Church, Northport, AL
from the time she and Jack moved back to Northport in 1998 until the time of her
"graduation to glory" as she and Jack termed it. She loved her pastor, his wife and
family and all her church family, Ruth Sunday School Class and every class
member. It was her joy to help others, as much as her health allowed in her
senior years, sending greeting cards, notes, texts to encourage others and let
them know they were not forgotten. Naomia contacted people by phone to check
on them and pray with them over the phone. The Pray for Me Program, at CCBC,
was very special to her. She was able to get to know some of the youth of the
church and felt blessed that she could pray specifically for the one assigned to
her, text them, or call them, encourage them in their walk with the Lord, share
Scripture, and send them notes and cards. WMU was very important to Naomia
and she wanted to be a part of every project she could. She enjoyed being a
substitute Sunday School teacher, studying God's Word and sharing the great
truths of His Word with her class.
As an avid Alabama football fan, she greatly enjoyed cheering on her favorite
team. Her family seemed to enjoy watching her watch the game more than they
did the game itself-she would get so excited.
Naomia was also known for her wonderful Southern cooking, and especially her
fabulous yeast rolls and blueberry jam. She showed her love by cooking for
others, throughout her life.
A very special thank you to Kevin and Rhonda Morgan, Bill and Beverly Loew,
Howard and Shirley Tidmore, Hayward and Betty Malone, CCBC Men's Ministry,
numerous others in her church family, and community, as well as special cousins,
Carol Booth and family and Hilary Shirley for all they have done through the years
to help my mother.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Morgan, Bill Loew, Brandon Booth, Todd Shirley, Dalton
Bobo, and Ralph Cabiness.
