Katherine Parnell

Katherine Reid Parnell, age 76, passed away on March 18, 2021 at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL. She was born on October 30, 1944 to Tom Reid and Mildred Heaslett Reid.

Kathy grew up in Anniston, AL and graduated from Anniston High School. After high school she married Lawrence Edward Parnell and lived in Tuscaloosa, raising her family there for 55 years. She attended The University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, and she worked as an RN at DCH in Tuscaloosa for 30 years.

In addition to her late husband Larry Parnell, Kathy was preceded in death by her mother Mildred Landt, father Tom Reid and her sister Ann Reid Smith.

Kathy is survived by her daughter Michelle Smith, her son Brad Parnell, her sister Norma Hammerlund, her niece Paige Smith, and her grandchildren Emily, Molly, Mary Kate and Tanner.

Kathy was a loving wife and mother, and an adoring grandmother. She was a wonderful friend to so many who cherish sweet memories with her. She loved her church family and enjoyed singing in the choir for many years with dear friends there. She was also a dedicated volunteer at Hospice of West Alabama.

Kathy was a faithful believer and follower of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and her family takes comfort in His promise in John 11:25,26

Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die.”

A memorial service will be held at Forest Lake United Methodist Church (1711 4th Avenue Tuscaloosa, AL 35401) on May 1, 2021 at 11:00 am.

The family requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama.
