James Hunter, Sr.

James Hunter, Sr.

James Daniel Hunter, Sr., of Northport, born September 7, 1941, passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at DCH Regional Medical Center.  He was 80. Visitation will be held at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North Saturday, September 25, 2021, at 1:00pm, with service following at 2:00pm, Bro. Tim Baumgarten officiating, and burial at Bethel Presbyterian Church directly after the service.  The family requests everyone to please remember that COVID is still a concern and to distance when possible.

James was a graduate of the University of Alabama and a lifelong Crimson Tide fan and supporter.  He worked as an Examiner of Public Accounts for the State of Alabama and as Business Manager for Shelton State Community College.  James loved his family and he loved Jesus and was a Gideon in the Northport camp and treasurer for his church until his health declined.  He was a member of Northport Free Will Baptist church for nearly 60 years where he was also the church pianist.  James was a wonderful piano player and would play for his father at gospel singings.

James was preceded in death by his parents, James Alfred and Lona Mae Crawford Hunter and his wife, Shirley Ann Coker Hunter.  He is survived by his three children, Joseph Hunter (Sandra), James Hunter, Jr. (Kelly), Jennifer H. Tucker (Thomas Burroughs); eight grandchildren, Ashley, Ross, Jake, Lauren, Daniel, Nicole, Anna, and Laura Beth; and four great-grandchildren, Kinleigh, Josie, Harper and Sam.

Pallbearers will include Ross Hunter, Jake Hunter, Daniel Hunter, Bob Wilson, Thomas Burroughs and Kevin McCauley.  Honorary pallbearers are members of Northport FWB church. Donations in his honor can be made to the American Stroke Association, Northport FWB church, or Bethel Presbyterian church cemetery fund.
