Gary Smith

Gary Doyle Smith age 73 of Northport, Alabama passed away on May 7, 2021 at his residence. Services will be held on Monday, May 10, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Phillips Chapel Freewill Baptist Church with visitation from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Brother Terrell Jones will be officiating and Magnolia Chapel North will be directing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank B. Smith and Lola Smith; brothers, Fred Smith, Truman Smith, Adrian Smith; sisters, Velvie Barnes, Lorene Pugh, Darlene Snyder and grandchildren, Trevor Smith and Jaden Smith.

He is survived by his loving wife, Connie Smith; his sons, Jerry Smith(Kirsten), Ronnie Smith(Stephanie) and special nephew and niece Dwayne Smith(Melissa); sisters, Irene Spencer(Mike), Gracie Rushing and Linda Cunningham(Mike); grandchildren, Sara, Zoey, Madelyn, Alason, Ethan and Dontae; and Numerous nieces and nephews.

Our hero, a true role model, a pillar of the family, terrific father, and loving husband of 51 years. He taught us so many things, the most important being respect, hard work and love of everyone regardless of their "status" in life. You rarely found him sitting unless it was on a tractor, lawn mower, motorcycle or in the driver's seat of one of the hundreds of cars he owned throughout his life. We all thought he would out live us, as he was rarely sick, a rock in so many ways. Thank you for all the outpouring of love we continue to share stories of his life.

Pallbearers will be John Marshall, Andrew Snyder, Frankie Pugh, Ronnie Sanders, Pat Phillips and Tommy Gates.

Honorary pallbearers will be Phillips Chapel Baptist Church and the Morman Road Community.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Phillips Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery Maintenance Fund.
