Flora (Doll) Murry Jemison departed this life to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at her home, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 26th in Tuscaloosa, Alabama at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South with Rev. Jessie White Jr. officiating, the pastor of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Visitation will be at 10:00AM, one hour prior to the funeral service.
Flora was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Jemison; her parents; Henry and Ida Lee Murry, her two sisters; Clara Giles (Henry Giles) and Rosie Murry-Lewis Pope (Caesar Pope), and her brother; Eugene Murry-Lewis (Odessa Murry-Lewis). Flora is survived by her daughters, Rev. Carolyn M. Tabb (Rev. Charles Tabb), Ganene Barnes; a son, Vandon Robertson; Four Grandchildren, Olivia S. Rogers (Jonathan Rogers), Madison Tabb, Rebecca Tabb, and Joshua Tabb; One Great Grandchild, Jayla Rogers; and a host of all her nieces, nephews, cousins, Godchildren, and friends.
Flora was born in Dancy, Alabama on July 14, 1946 to the late Henry and Ida Lee Murry. Flora was a graduate of R.J. Kirksey High School, Aliceville, Alabama in 1965. There she hailed as homecoming queen and graduated salutatorian of the Class of 1965. In Flora's early career she worked at Bryce Hospital, Tuscaloosa, Alabama as a mental health worker, for nearly ten years. Flora later attended Shelton State Community College of Cosmetology. Earning high accolades while attending, she was named student of the year, also graduating at the top her class. Later becoming an entrepreneur in the city of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, owning Critic's Choice Beauty Care Center. Flora paved the way for many others in the beauty industry. In Flora's latter career she was employed by Tuscaloosa's City School System for nearly ten years and then retired.
Flora was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a faithful member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, Tuscaloosa, Alabama for many years. She also was affiliated with Daystar Family Church, Tuscaloosa, Alabama as well as Varick Memorial AME Zion Church in Jacksonville, Florida. Flora regularly expressed her faith with others, she attended Varick's Women's Tuesday Night Prayer weekly where she prayed and encouraged other women to pray and to never stop trusting God. Flora would often say "Love and treat others right even when they don't treat you right, give God your very best and life will always give you the best." A special thanks to Justin Carl Lewis, family members, and friends for assisting her in her latter years.
