Eva Channell

Eva Jewell Channell, 79, passed peacefully on August 31st at her home in the Mt. Olive community of Coker.  Her son, Barry; grandson, Keith; and son-in-law, Tommy, welcomed her to heaven.
She was born in Berry, AL, in 1941, the youngest of ten kids to Arthur and Roxie Kimbrell who all preceded her in death.
In 1957, in the back seat of a '51 Chevy, she married John Lester, and they celebrated their 64th anniversary in April.   She is also survived by her daughter and best friend, Brenda (David) Ragsdale and sons, Danny (Pam) Channell and Ronny (Cindy) Channell and daughter-in-love, Lisa Channell. Grandkids, Pam (Greg) Robertson, Jeanette (Scotty) Brand, Eric (Vanessa) Channell, Kevin Channell, Jacob (Taren) Channell, and Ron Channell, Jr.  Great-grand to Matthew (Kathryn), Michael (Shelby), and Sarah Robertson; Nathan Brand; Sawyer Channell, and Addison and Anna Channell.  Great-great to Emma, Owen, and newest addition, Greyson, who came 7 weeks early to make her a 5th generation but only met her via FaceTime. Your childhood was harder than most people today can comprehend.  You told many stories of milking cows before school a nd putting the milk jug down in the well to keep it cool. You recalled taking the mule and wagon to church and also into town to sell eggs to have money for coffee, flour, and sugar.  You knew the days before electricity and phones, but you always spoke with fondness and appreciated the life you had.  You were a wonderful wife, Mama, mother-in-law, Grandma, MeMaw, and MeMe.  We are blessed to have had you lead us all with your servant's heart and love for others.  Your door was always open and there was always room at your table.  We will fondly remember your wonderful cooking like Sunday lunches of roast, potatoes, carrots, peas, and cornbread; homemade biscuits and gravy; homemade cookies, chocolate oatmeal candy; peanut butter balls, and all the other Christmas goodies and your famous chicken and dressing. You enjoyed a simple life and were thankful for each of God's blessings.  You saved everything and wasted nothing.  You were a strong lady and the backbone of our family.  You encouraged us to love others and you exemplified it.  You were always ready to put a puzzle together or play a round of dominoes.  Through health issues and losing a child, you continued to fight a good fight. You kept the faith and you have finished your race and now sing in the heavenly choir. You are precious; you are loved; you are true example of Proverbs 31:10 , "Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies."
The family will have a private graveside service officiated by Rev. Ronny Channell. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of West Alabama or a charity of your choice.
