David was born February 27, 1939 in Fayette County, Alabama, one of eleven children. His early years were spent picking cotton on the family farm. He graduated from Gorgas High School. Some of his various earlier jobs included Perry Creamery, Pepsi Cola Company, and the Tuscaloosa Fire Department; However, the career he was most known for was his 30 years in an immensely successful homebuilding business in Fayette, Alabama, alongside his business partner and best friend, James Smith. Raised by devout Christians, David lived his life as a follower of Christ and his faith was evident in everything he did and to everyone he met. He was always the first one to lend a helping hand to his family, friends, or anyone who needed help. He loved people and made a friend everywhere he went. He enjoyed spending time in the summer gathered around a circle of chairs reminiscing with his siblings about the hard work but fun times they shared growing up. He was loving, kind, selfless, strong, witty, and never without a sweet smile on his face. He loved the Lord, his wife, his family and friends, Alabama football, traveling, socializing, and telling funny stories. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

The family would like to express their undying appreciation to Ida, Anita, and Earnestine, who all took such loving care of him when helping to fill in for his children and wife. The family would also like to thank the entire staff of Hospice of West Alabama for their loving care of him during his final days, as well as Dr. William Hill for all of the care he provided daddy over the last 30 years.
