Emblem

Wyman L. Watson, age 85, of Northport, Alabama passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on December 10, 2025. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 15, 2025, at Phillips Chapel Freewill Baptist Church with Bro. Terrell Jones and Bro. Scott Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Magnolia Chapel North directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim Henry and Lucy Watson; six sisters, five brothers, and infant grandson, Parker Sanford.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judy Watson; daughter, Angie Sanford (Robbie); bonus daughter, Cathie Ferguson (Larry); three grandsons, Lane Sanford, Connor Sanford, and Easton Sanford; bonus grandchildren, Rylee Collins (Cody), Curt Jamerson (Kendall); and bonus great-grandchildren, Jo-Leigh Collins, Lettie Collins, and Presley Jamerson; and a host of nieces and nephews that he loved so dearly.

Wyman began his military journey in the National Guard from 1958-1959, and went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Navy from 1960-1964. He loved sharing stories of the many places he traveled in the Navy and of the experiences that shaped his early years. Following his military service, he became a highly skilled and respected carpenter. His craftmanship can be found throughout the community in the many homes that he built and remodeled. He poured care and excellence into every home or project that he completed, leaving behind work that will stand for generations. Wyman also had a deep love of farming; planting a garden and growing fresh vegetables was one of his favorite things to do. He found the most joy in sharing his harvest with family, friends, and neighbors each season. With his quick wit, old tales, and endless "funnies" to share, he had a gift for making people laugh and feel at ease. He loved life, and he loved people; he was always ready to brighten a moment by sharing a funny story or memory. Being around him meant that laughter was never far away. His greatest joy in life came from being a wonderful Daddy and loving Papa; he was always ready to talk about those grandsons with anyone around him! Among his greatest pleasures was supporting his grandsons in every aspect of their lives; he was a constant presence at their sporting events, rarely missing practice, and never missing a game if he could help it. Even when his health declined in recent years, he always made an effort to be present. When attending in person was no longer possible, he faithfully watched games on GameChanger, celebrating every play and talking through each detail of the game with pride. His grandsons were his heart, and he was their biggest fan. Wyman bravely battled cancer on and off since 1999, never allowing illness to steal his joy or diminish his Love for his family. He continued to live fully, laugh, and make others laugh freely, and cherish every single moment of life that he was given. While we deeply grieve the loss of his presence, we rejoice in knowing that his body is now whole, his vision and hearing restored, and he is finally pain-free. His legacy of love, laughter, craftsmanship, generosity, and devotion to his family will live on in the hearts of all who were privileged to know him.

"Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain." Psalm 127:1

Wyman's hands built homes, and his love built a legacy that will stand forever. His loved ones now rest in the promise that the Lord welcomed Wyman into a home not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
