Willyne Averette

: Willyne Gentry Averette, age 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 6, 2011 at Glen Haven Nursing Home. Willyne, or "Nanny" as she was affectionately known, was preceded in death by her parents, Frank A. Gentry and Rella R. Gentry; her loving husband Troy C. Averette; and siblings Alma G. Head and Gene T. Gentry. Nanny is survived by her daughters, Troi Lane Wallace (Randy) of Northport and Sheila A. Springer of Birmingham; grandchildren Hadley Leach of New York City, NY, Cody A. Elmore of Tuscaloosa, Erin S. Guin (Jonathan) of Boston, MA, Jessalyn and Taylor Wallace of Fayette; and sisters Bernice G. Cash and Johnnie Gentry. Willyne was born in Bibb County and graduated from Bibb County High School. Not long after, she married Troy, and they celebrated 64 years of marriage together. Willyne worked at DCH for many years and also helped Troy with his radio and TV business, before retiring. She was a member at First Wesleyan Church and faithful follower of Christ. Nanny loved gardening, cooking, sewing, and spending time with her grandchildren. One could not find a sweeter, kinder, gentler soul. Honorary pallbearers are the caring staff of Glen Haven Nursing Home Station 3, who took such good care of her and whom she loved dearly, the staff at Caring Days Adult Day Care, Annette Averette, Beth Higdon, Diane Gentry, Diane Gilbert, and all of the loving children of her nieces. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North with Larry Wallace officiating and with visitation 30 minutes prior. A private family burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Caring Days Adult Day Care Building Campaign.
