William Albert Rogers passed away peacefully in his home in Greensboro, AL, on August 15, 2026, just one day shy of his 90th birthday.

Services will be Thursday, August 20,2026, 2:00 p.m. at Greensboro Baptist Church with the Brother Dee McGuire officiating and Magnolia Chapel South directing. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.

Albert (or “Daddy Bert,” as most knew him) was born on August 16, 1936, in Epes, Alabama to the late John Henry, Sr. and Veva William Rogers. He had an older brother, John Henry Rogers, Jr. and a younger sister, Mary Jane Robinson, both who precede him in death.

He married the love of his life, Cynthia Matlock Rogers on May 15, 1958, and together they had three children: Charles “Chuck” Henry Rogers (d. 1986), Caprice Dodd Colburn, and Cassandra Elaine Muñoz (Marcelo).

Daddy Bert joined the Army National Guard in 1954 and retired after 41 years of service. He served through many ranks and retired as First Sergeant. He worked for Black Warrior Electric for 35 years, starting as a lineman and diligently working his way up to Foreman over the Greensboro crew. He retired from Black Warrior in 1998. Daddy Bert was an active member of Greensboro Baptist Church for over fifty years and served as a Senior Deacon for over forty. He and his wife served in the Church’s Children’s Ministry for forty years as preschool teacher and director.

In his spare time, he enjoyed meticulously caring for his yard. Cutting grass on his John Deere was one of his favorite things to do. He did not allow others to ride his mower until his granddaughter, Melissa Canter Averette, earned the privilege (much to his family’s surprise!). He and Melissa shared a close relationship. He enjoyed building bird houses and squirrel feeders, and in general enjoyed watching God’s creatures in his backyard. His greatest joy in life was his family. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he enjoyed spending time with and celebrating his children; grandchildren, Melissa (Thomas), Rodrigo Muñoz Dayaa (Joseph), Carrie Lee Canter, Andrea Muñoz Goode (Mark), Daniela Muñoz Wilson (Garrett), and Dante Muñoz Rogers; and great-grandchildren, Grayson Nicole Averette, Brantlee Noelle Averette, William Preston Averette, Liam Charles Muñoz Goode, and Jamarion Harris. He has faithfully prayed for them in all their endeavors.
