William Livingston

William Gordon Livingston, age 89 of Tuscaloosa passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Hospice of West Alabama. An 11:00 am graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with John Higginbotham officiating and Magnolia Chapel South directing.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Gene and Nettielee Bond Livingston, brothers; Claude, Jimmy, and Bruce Livingston.

He is survived by his daughter; Sherry Jan Livingston of Tuscaloosa, and Randal Gordon Livingston of Tuscaloosa, brothers; Dan Livingston (Margaret) and Sister-in-law; Brenda Livingston both of Tuscaloosa, grandchildren; Drew Leopard (Caitlin) of Kansas City, KS., Landon Leopard, Jordon Leopard and Adam Livingston all of Tuscaloosa, great grandson; AJ Leopard of Kansas City, KS. and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gordon was born in Akron,Alabama and grew up the 2nd oldest of five brothers. The family moved to Tuscaloosa where he attended Holt High School. There he was captain of the football team and voted most athletic. He married his high school sweetheart, Rachel Evelyn Phares, in 1952. They were married for 58 years at the time of her passing in 2010. They had 2 children, Randy and Jan Livingston.

Gordon worked at the Central Foundry and later became a machinist at BF Goodrich where he retired after many years of service. He then became a security guard at Shelton State where he worked for 10 years.

He loved football all his life. Gordon coached with the little league division of the YMCA
in the late 60's . His team was the Alberta Tigers. They won numerous Championships and many past players still called him coach. His love of football carried over to his devotion to the Alabama Crimson Tide. He never missed watching them play. Gordon was also an excellent golfer. He enjoyed playing every chance he could over the years. Along with his talent as an athlete he became accomplished in woodworking. He created beautiful furniture and decorative pieces. His work was featured at Kentuck for several years.

In the last few years of his life, Gordon learned to play the guitar. He was self taught from watching YouTube videos. He practiced daily and found much joy in playing. His favorite song to play was Sweet Home Alabama.

Gordon Livingston was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was a hard worker who loved his family very much. He was a sweet person and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Pallbearers will be Drew Leopard, Landon Leopard, and Adam Livingston. Honorary pallbearers are previous employees of BF Goodrich, and Shelton State, staff and residence of Pine Valley.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations to Holy Spirit Catholic High School football program.
