Obituary

Wanda “Sue” Pate, age 74, of Northport, Ala., passed away August 3, 2026, at her residence. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Memory Hill Gardens with Rev. David Kelly officiating and Magnolia Chapel North directing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas “Boy” Pate; grandson, Ethan Pate; parents, C. J. and Gladys Fields; sisters, Betty G. Oliver, and Faye Fields Cork; and grandparents, Hardy and Alice Norris.

Survivors include her daughter, Tina Gray (Doyle); son, Tommy Pate; sisters, Patsy Cook (Darryl), and Marie Plowman (Tony); brothers, Chester Sexton (Nancy), and Pat Sexton (Paulette); grandchildren, Jeffrey Pate (Tori), Tiffany Ballard (Cole), and Coleton Pate (Bo); great-grandchildren, Brayden Pate, Zella Kate Pate, Lane Ballard, Miles Pate, Scarlett Pate, and Jett Pate; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wanda “Sue” Pate was born September 15, 1951, to C. J. and Gladys Fields in Tuscaloosa, Ala. She married her high school sweetheart in December of 1967. She was blessed with two children, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. There are not enough words to sum up Sue, but since we have to try, it was her love for family, friends, and travel that made her who she was. She never met a stranger and took any opportunity to celebrate. She wore many hats and lit up every room that she entered. To know her was to love her. Although our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing she is well with the Lord.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Pate, Coleton Pate, Jamie Gray, Cole Ballard, Matt Rhinehart, and Buck Smith.

Honorary pallbearers are Amedisys Hospice, Dr. M. Aryanpure, present and past employees of Faucett Vestavia, The University of Alabama, and Hunter Creek, Sherry Gaddy, and Betty Lott.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Breast Cancer Association or to a charity of your choice.
