Timothy S. Mistovich, age 72, passed away after a lengthy illness on October 20, 2023 at his home in Northport, AL. He was born January 11, 1951 in Illinois and spent his childhood in Tuscon, AZ and Bryan, TX. In Bryan, his father owned radio station KORA and Tim got his first work experience in the broadcasting industry prior to graduating from high school. After high school, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy including a combat tour of duty in Vietnam.

Tim's interest in archaeology led him to Tuscaloosa and The University of Alabama where he received his B.A. and M.A. in Anthropology. In 1978, Tim joined the Office of Archaeological Research (OAR) as a field technician in Moundville. During his tenure at OAR from 1978-1989, Tim traveled widely across Alabama doing archaeological research.

After leaving OAR, he founded the cultural resources management (CRM) firm Panamerican Consultants, Inc. in 1989 in which he served as President until the company was sold in 2021. Under his leadership, Panamerican became one of the larger and better-known CRM firms in the Southeastern U.S. and employed hundreds of anthropology students and archaeologists over the years. Additionally, Panamerican was one of the earlier CRM firms to have a dedicated underwater archaeology unit.

The numerous former Panamerican employees are Tim's legacy to professional archaeology, and he always strove to make the firm "a home for people who wanted to do good archaeology."

Tim is survived by his wife, Cecile and his brother, Brian Mistovich of Texas.
