Stephen Alfred Cooper, 92, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at Hospice of West Alabama.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, James David and Lillian Ann Cooper, and siblings
He is survived by his wife Carol, son Shane Cooper, daughter-in-law Bridgett, granddaughter Malorie and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family
Born in Honduras, Stephen lived a life marked by hard work and a deep appreciation for the simple things in life. He was a hardworking man who spent his career as a tugboat captain. His work took him to many places over the years, allowing him to experience life in different parts of the country. He spent many years living in New Orleans and Mobile before eventually making Northport Alabama his home. There, he and his wife built a home filled with a lifetime of memories.
For many years, Stephen found happiness tending his garden and caring for his beloved cats, simple pleasures that brought him great joy throughout his life.
The family will honor Stephen's life with a private memorial service. In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated and his ashes will be returned to the Bay Island of Utila, Honduras, his homeland and a place that held deep meaning to him and where his memory will forever be connected.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has offered prayers, love and support during this difficult time. Stephen will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
