Sammie Ray Steele

Sammie Ray Steele, 79 of Centreville, passed away March 3, 2026 at Bibb County Medical Center. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at 11:30 am at Haysop Baptist Church Cemetery in Centreville with Rev. Mike Allen officiating and Magnolia Chapel South directing. Visitation will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in Centreville on Tuesday from 10:00 ~ 11:00 am. 

Ray as he was known, was born, raised and lived in Eoline his whole life. He is preceded in death by the love of his life for 47 years Sherrie Steele, his parents, Arnold and Mattie Lois Steele; brothers, Howard and Meigs Steele.

Survivors include his sons, David Steele (Rhonda), Michael Steele (Kenna) ; grandchildren, Kenzie, Kylie, Xander, Porter, and Sawyer whom he loved more than anything; siblings, Billy Steele (Tammy), Judy O'Mary (Art).

Ray worked for over 20 years and retired as a foreman from the  State of Alabama, Bibb County Road Crew, for North Bibb County. In his younger years he was a trapper, log man, and all around woodsman. His family knew him as a dad, uncle, pawpaw, and brother. But almost everyone knew him as a friend. Ray was always someone who would give you the shirt off his back to help anyone in need. 

In his retirement years he enjoyed having a garden, selling plums and meeting new people. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He will be missed by so many  but it gives us peace knowing years ago he accepted Jesus as His Lord and Savior. He is now walking the streets of Gold with his wife and family and hurting no more.
