Robert Daniel Taylor, age 72, of Greensboro, died Oct. 21, 2011, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South with Rev. David Pierce officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Moundville with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home South directing. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to services at the funeral home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan Taylor and Bernice Beckham Taylor. Survivors include his wife, Mary Hugh Buckner Taylor; his sons, Robert Keith Taylor (Miriam) and Michael Hugh Taylor (Casey); the daughter of his "heart"�, Casey Langley Taylor; his sister, Sandra Taylor Ryan (Hershal); and his grandchildren, Robert Sloan Taylor, Michael Beckham Taylor, Anna Devin Taylor, and Justice Elizabeth Taylor. Bobby started working at the early age of 12 and continued until August 2011 when he just couldn't anymore. He was married to Mary Hugh Buckner for 47 years and was a loving husband. He loved his two sons and took great pride in each of them and so much joy in his grandchildren. He starred working as a teenager with a wholesale grocery company as a truck driver and lived at the YMCA. He had a great personality and became a salesman for Burchfield Wholesale Grocery in Tuscaloosa. He took a sales position with the Pillsbury Company and moved to Birmingham. Piggly Wiggly was one of his accounts, and he went to work for them. He was director of merchandising and implemented several new programs, served on the Advisory Board of Directors for many years, and then purchased his first store in Greensboro, Alabama 27 years ago. A second store came several years later. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish with his boys and friends. He coached Little League baseball for many years at Hoover Athletic. He served in the Alabama National Guard for six years. Bobby was a generous, kind, loving man, always fair, and thought of his employees as extended family. He had a strong faith in God and was a lifelong Methodist. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. He was a good man. Pallbearers will be Sloan Taylor, Hershal Ryan, Tim Ryan, Edwin Seale, John Standridge, and Lamar Hall. Honorary pallbearers are Chris Barnette, Taylor Ryan, Tyler Ryan, Reid Lawson, Homer Williams, Jerry McCann, Dennis Stewart, Mike Miller, Dr. Warren Holley, Dr. F. Salinas, Dr. Berry, employees of Piggly Wiggly, DCH staff and especially ACCU nursing staff, and Joshua and Lena for final compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Families of SMA, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital .
