Miriam "Mimi" Kempf Boyd, to know her was to love her.

Mimi was born in Warren, Pennsylvania, and lived there until she was two years old, when her family moved south to Memphis, Tennessee. She spent most of her childhood there until an opportunity arose in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where she began managing "Dad's Place" in 1986. It was there that she met her husband, Bret Boyd, as they bonded over fishing, skiing, and a dozen raw oysters she slipped him for his birthday. She fell in love with him and his two young sons, Phillip and Blake. Together they built a beautiful life and added two more children, Britnee and Buck. After Buck was born, they moved their family to their current home in Northport, Alabama.

Mimi had a huge heart and a passion for helping and teaching children. That love led her to become a substitute teacher for the Tuscaloosa County School System. She retired around 2009 after being diagnosed with breast cancer, but she never stopped giving her all.

She was a proud member of the Red Hatters, volunteered at DCH, and had an undeniable love for animals. She enjoyed dining out with loved ones, painting ceramics with friends and family, making her famous salsa, and spending time fishing and swimming with family at the cabin.

In 2018, Mimi was joyfully reunited with her firstborn son, Glenn. Meeting him and his family in California filled a fifty-year-old hole in her heart that nothing else could.

She loved her family with all her might and instilled that same love in each of us. She was a warrior, a matriarch, a goofball, a loving Nana, a devoted wife, an amazing cook, a loyal friend, and a dedicated mother.

Mimi was the embodiment of strength, love, and grace.

Mimi. Mom. Nana.

You will be forever loved, cherished, and missed-your laugh, your smile, your heart, and, of course, that delicious salsa.
