Lorraine Teresa Herring Saunders, age 66, of Gordo, Ala., passed away March 29, 2026.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Saunders; sister, Janet Herring; and her parents, Airtes and Mable Herring.
Survivors include her daughters, Tonna Saunders (Colt), Brittany Tyner (Owen), and Julie Harris; son, Eddie Edwards; sisters, Denise Turner, and Gail Mullins; brother, Airtes “Butch” Herring; grandchildren, Trinity Edwards and Eli Edwards; and various nieces and nephews.
Lorraine spent her life helping others because that’s what she loved to do. After a stint in the Army as a mechanic, she decided she wanted to become a nurse. She spent years as an LPN at DCH; and was a volunteer firefighter for a while as well. She likely would have retired as a nurse had she not become disabled. Once she was home full-time, she picked up numerous hobbies. She enjoyed painting t-shirts for friends and family, canning, and couponing. She kept aquariums for a time and loved to play video games especially when we played with her. She made friends with everyone, including her nurses, many of whom became like daughters to her. Mom loved spending time with her kids and grandkids, and she loved Uno and Solo-her two service dogs, and her favorite cat Stupid, but what Mom truly lived the most was Dad. Marrying after only 8 days, they understood each other in ways no one else did. Losing him broke her heart, and she loved him with her last breath. We miss you, Mom.
