Linda Gail McGuffie, 83, began walking in the Lord’s presence on Monday, June 30, 2025, a faithful servant as she was here on earth. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Magnolia Chapel South (6100 Old Greensboro Rd, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405) with Dr. Drew Dockery officiating. Prior to the service, a visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m.
Linda, a loving mother and Nana, is survived by her children, David McGuffie (Dave Mitchell), Leesa Smith (Jim), and Larry Adam McGuffie (Tina); grandchildren, Cortney Streaker (William), Jacob Smith, Adam McGuffie (Kelly), Abby Mills (Tyler), and Emily Smith; great-grandchildren, Robert Streaker, Blair Mills, Declan McGuffie, Charles Streaker, and Maeve McGuffie. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 65 years, Edgar (Ed); her parents, Joe Craddock and Maebelle Allen Harris; and her sister Judith Carlisle.
Linda was born on July 9, 1941, in Birmingham, Alabama. She attended Cargile Beauty School and later became a licensed Cosmetology Instructor. She owned and operated Linda’s School of Beauty in Fultondale, AL, for over 32 years and trained many students to be licensed cosmetologists. She was known as Mrs. Mac. She shared her faith openly in her work. With her students, she began every day with a Bible verse and prayer. With her clients, she provided a listening ear and would often pray with her clients in the moment. She saw her business as her ministry and a way to provide affordable haircuts to people in her community.
Linda had many passions. She loved poodles. She took care of many poodles as pets and collected ceramic poodle figurines. She enjoyed being creative, especially painting landscapes and still lifes, crochet, and embroidery. Linda loved house plants and flowers, particularly African violets and zinnias. She was famous for her banana pudding at church gatherings and holidays. After Ed retired, they enjoyed visiting state parks in their RV. Linda loved fishing, and Ed loved taking her.
Linda had many people who cared for her in her later years after she moved to Tuscaloosa, AL, including throughout her battle with breast cancer. She had a team of caregivers from A Touch of Love owned by Barbara Ford. Sharon Prewitt was with her from early on, providing her with love and care to the end. Other compassionate caregivers in the last few weeks of her life were Adline Carter, Maggie Wells, and Mary Ward. After her husband’s passing, Linda felt welcomed and loved by the JOY Bible Class at Valley View Baptist Church. Because of this love and care for Linda, all of these women are honorary pallbearers.
