Johnny Wheat

Johnny Lee Wheat, age 85, passed away on January 24, 2026. He was born on June 1, 1940, and was born and raised in Northport, Alabama, where he spent his life surrounded by family, friends, and community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, B.L. and Lois Wheat, his brothers, Leland Wheat and Joel Wheat; along with several beloved aunts uncles and cousins. Johnny was married to the love of his life, Hazel Wheat, for 65 years. Their marriage was a testament to devotion, partnership, and enduring love. He was a proud father to his two sons, Steve Wheat (Becky) and Mike Wheat (Pam), and a devoted grandfather to Justin, Lauren (John), John Cole (Hanna), and Lexie, all of whom brought him immense joy and pride. He is also survived by his sister, Charlotte Guin (Jimmy) along with his brother-in-law, sister-in-law, and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Johnny worked in automotive sales for many years and was the proud owner of Northport Motors, which he operated for 37 years. Through his work, he built lasting relationships and earned a reputation for honesty, hard work, and fairness -values he carried into every part of his life.

Johnny will be remembered for his steady presence, strong values, and deep love for his family.

He touched the lives of many through his kindness, integrity, and quiet strength, leaving behind a legacy that will continue through generations.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, at Magnolia Chapel North with Bro. Tim Baumgarten officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Magnolia Chapel North directing. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Thursday, at Magnolia Chapel North.

Honorary pallbearers include: Northport Freewill Baptist Church members, DCH TSICU Staff, and The Front Porch Restaurant Staff, as well as many special friends.
