John Phelps

John Phelps, age 69 of Northport, passed away February 12, 2023 at his home. Services will be held on Friday, February 17, 2023 at 2:30 pm at Yellow Creek Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Magnolia Chapel North directing. Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm prior to the service at Magnolia Chapel North.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Ralph Alfonso Phelps and Annie Myrtle Phelps, sister; Barbara Watts, brothers; Ralph Phelps and Cline Allen Phelps and his son James Phelps of the Mobile area.

Survivors include his wife Dorothy Phelps, daughter; Alicia Phelps, step-daughter; Linda Keasler (Bob Colburn), son; John Phelps II (Miranda), step-son; Mike Quilliams (Karen), grandchildren; John Phelps III, Brynn Phelps, Jonah Phelps, Graydon Phelps, step-grandchildren; Mira Davis (Parker), Cherish Spencer (Jacob), Kristen Quilliams, Dylan Quilliams (Dianna), great grandchildren; Alina Davis, Adalynn Davis, Jase Quilliams and Braxton Spurrell.

John grew up in Chickasaw,Alabama. He attended Vigor High School and was a graduate of the University of South Alabama. He worked for the State of Alabama Tax Assessors office for 30 plus years until his retirement. He was an avid University of Alabama fan. He loved watching games at home in his recliner. He also loved grilling and enjoyed a good steak.

Pallbearers will be Parker Davis, Jacob Spencer, Dylan Quilliams, Bob Colburn, Mike Quilliams, and Tim Wilcutt.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations to Childrens Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham or The Food Bank of West Alabama.
