Rev. Jerry Lester Skinner

Reverend Jerry Skinner, age 79, of Northport, Alabama, passed away January 23rd, 2024, at Grandview Medical Center. Services will be held Friday, January 26th, at Rose Boulevard Baptist Church, 13672 Frankie Thomas Drive, Northport, AL 35475. Visitation will be at 1pm, Celebration of Life at 2pm with Rev. Don Savell and Rev. Shannon Burns officiating. Graveside services will follow (pending weather conditions) at Big Creek Cemetery, Highway 82 Coker, Alabama.  

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, B.L. and Mazell Skinner and his son, Shannon Skinner. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara, daughters; Angie Hughes (Jason), Tarah Perdue (Trae), grandchildren; Taylor Hughes (Brett Garner), Meghan Skinner, Brody Perdue, Holden Hughes, Tyler Skinner and Britt Perdue, great grandchildren; Finn Garner, siblings; Mike Skinner (Glenda) and Alice Nelson, sister-in-law; Latricia Barnett (Charlie), brother-in-law; Tommy Winstead (Beverly) and a host of nieces and nephews.

Jerry was born June 30, 1944, in Meridian, Mississippi. He graduated in 1962 from Philadelphia High School where he met the love of his life and married Barbara Winstead on May 24, 1963. Jerry graduated from Clarke Memorial College in Newton, MS in 1969. He surrendered to preach and began pastoring at Faith Baptist in Lena, MS in 1967. Jerry loved the Lord, his family, and the numerous congregations he pastored for over 57 years. At the time of his death, Jerry was pastor of Rose Boulevard Baptist Church in Northport, Alabama.

Jerry loved the Crimson Tide, playing golf and traveling with his wife and brothers and sisters in law. He loved watching his grandchildren participate in their various extracurricular activities but most importantly, he loved seeing all of them accept Christ as their Savior and being able to baptize each one. He was loved greatly by his family, friends and so many others that he ministered to. He will be missed greatly.  

Pallbearers will be Rick Mitchell, Joey Saldaña, Jimmy Holliman, Hilary Shirley, Robby McMillian, James Knight.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of Rose Boulevard Baptist Church, the McDonald’s Coffee Crew, Blake Winchester, Macey Milligan, Mayson Jaindl, Gene Cook, George Norris, the neighbors of Martin Place, and the members of New Life Baptist Church and Reverend John Hamilton.
