Janet Lee, a devoted wife, mother, and dedicated servant to others, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
She was preceded in death by her father, Aubrey Bibby, and her brothers, Doug Bibby and Kenneth Bibby.
She is survived by her mother, Betty Bibby Neill; her loving husband, Kenneth R. Lee; her sons, Jami Rainey (Stephanie) and Josh Rainey; her sister, Jean B. Key (Steve), and brother, Jimmy Bibby (Susie); and her cherished grandson, Silas Rainey. She is also survived by her extended family: Chuck Neill (Jane), Rick Neill (Janice), Chris Neill (Georgette), and Jim Neill (Janie); her nieces and nephews: Crissi Nance, Laurie Moore, Justin Bibby, Caleb Bibby, and Dede Wheat; along with many precious aunts, uncles, and cousins, including Jim West, (Linda), Don Bibby (Peggy) ,Lynn Bibby, Judy Bibby, Donna White, Nell Malone, Melanie Bibby, Aaron West, and Stewart West.
A proud 1970 graduate of Hale County High School, Janet pursued a lifelong passion for education. While working at the University of Alabama, she earned her Doctorate in Higher Education Administration in 1999. Janet retired from the University of Alabama, having served in various capacities throughout her career. Notably, she worked for many years in the Office of International Student and Scholar Services, eventually serving as Director of similar offices at the University of Missouri and the University of California, Berkeley, before returning to the University of Alabama to complete her distinguished service.
Janet was deeply involved in her church community. She played the piano, taught Sunday school, and participated in mission trips. She lived a life marked by kindness, faith, and a heart for serving others.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Circlewood Baptist Church with Dr. Herb Thomas officiating.
Pallbearers will be Loper Waters, Hank Waters, Jackson Bibby, Bradley Moore, Justin Bibby, and Caleb Bibby.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Circlewood Baptist Church Renovation Fund or to Hospice of West Alabama
