James "Jimmy" Ward Robertson
November 20, 1959 ~ January 8, 2026
Retired Army Sergeant James Ward "Jimmy" Robertson, 66 passed away on January 8, 2026 with his wife by his side at Diversicare of Greensboro. He will be remembered as a faithful and devoted husband, grandfather, brother, father, uncle and friend. Services will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 at 2:00 pm at Magnolia Chapel South with his grandson Brandon Montgomery, saying a few special words to remember his life. Visitation will be held at the chapel one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow with Military Honors at Oak Hill Cemetery in Moundville. Magnolia Chapel South is directing.
Jimmy was born on November 20th, 1959, in Newnan, Georgia, the son of James Goodman Robertson and Mildred Patricia Ward. He graduated from Crestwood High School in Roswell, Georgia, in 1977.Jimmy had a great sense of humor and always had a smile on his face, loved his family and never met a stranger. He enjoyed spending time at his parent's house on Lake Martin and his brother's house at Twin Lakes in Tampa. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races and rooting for the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs. He and Cheryl loved to travel to visit family, explore parks and go sightseeing around the country.Jimmy was an American Patriot, and proud of his military career and service to his country.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1982. After completing boot camp in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, he served as Army Active Duty, 1983 -1986, Army Reserve, 1986-1991, and with the Alabama Army National Guard, 214th Military Police Company, 1991-2004. In the 214th MPC, Jimmy was a Medic, Recruiting and Retention, Telecommunications O.R. Tech. In his Army career Jimmy served as a Medic with Military Police during Operation Just Cause, in Panama, 1989, Operation Joint Endeavor in Bosnia and Hungary 1996, and Operation Iraqi Freedom in Bagdad, Iraq, 2003. Jimmy retired Dec 25, 2010. He received numerous military honors and awards throughout his career. A favorite highlight of his time in Bosnia was when his Army unit helped provide Christmas presents to an orphanage in Bosnia. In the private sector, Jimmy worked at Robinson Iron's Foundry in Alexander City, AL, for 10 years. He also loved working for the Alabama Army National Guard in Recruitment and Retention.
On November 26, 2004, Jim and Cheryl were united in marriage on Lake Martin in Dadeville, Alabama. They spent most of their marriage in Tuscaloosa living near their children and enjoying their grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father, James Goodman Robertson; mother, Patricia Taylor; stepfather, John Taylor; his brother, John Roger Robertson; sister, Janet Elizabeth Fallin and his in-laws, Joe Hildreth and Patty Hildreth.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa Cheryl Robertson; five children, Julie Terry Montgomery (Josh), Jason Terry (Kari), Kenneth Strickland, Jr., Kendall Pierce, Josh Strickland (Taylor); 9 grandchildren, Brandon Montgomery (Nolie), Caylee Montgomery, Camilla and Cody Terry, Brooklyn and Cadence Pierce and JJ and Jason Strickland; sister, Joy Robertson Hope (Jay); brothers, John Taylor (Pam), Bob Taylor (Sonya), Charles Taylor (Darcie), Paul Taylor (Maureen), Brother-in-laws, Richard Fallin and Chris Hildreth; Sister-in-law, Rhonda Robertson; Uncle, Dewey Ward; nieces and nephews, John Hope (Mika), Wil Hope, Elizabeth Lamb (Richard), Patrick Reinert, Chris Robertson, Ashley Savaglio (Kyle); great nieces and nephews, Catherine & Rebecca Lamb, Violet Reinhart, Madison and Brentley Savaglio, as well as numerous cousins.
Pallbearers are Markeith Vanhorn, Chris Hildreth, Josh Montgomery, Jason Terry, Josh Strickland and Matthew Lofthus. Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Anand Pandy, Doctors and staff of the Birmingham VA Hospital, friends and neighbors of Lenox Circle, the Moundville community and Diversicare of Greensboro.
