Herbert Galveston Milligan, age 84, of Northport, Ala., passed away February 13, 2026, at Glen Haven Nursing Home. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at Magnolia Chapel North with Bro. Shannon Moses officiating. Burial will follow in Sulphur Springs Cemetery with Magnolia Chapel North directing. Visitation will be 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathelene Milligan; parents, Archie G. and Etta Mae Milligan; and brother, Alton Milligan.
Survivors include his son, James R. Milligan (Robin); sisters, Donnie Mae Cole, Carolyn Hartley (Lawrence), and Glenda Scrivner; brothers, Doug, Harold, and Frankie Milligan; granddaughter, Miranda Killgore (Drew); great-grandchildren, Grayson James Hallman, and Sydera Ranae Hallman; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Herbert was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved and served his family with pride. He worked with the Alabama Dept. of Transportation (Materials) for 38 years. While working with the state, he made many lifetime friends among his co-workers. Herbert was a previous member of the Northside Lions Club in Samantha. He enjoyed coaching his son with the Northside Little League teams. Herbert played on many men’s softball teams from Northside.
Gardening was a passion he was proud of and enjoyed teaching it to his son. He was a Christian and took on the role of servanthood with his family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Pallbearers will be Mike Ballard, Clark Collins, Lawrence Hartley, Ricky Hitt, Andrew Killgore, Greg Long, Jarrod Milligan, and Tony Terry.
Honorary pallbearers are Gorgas High School Class of 1958, friends and neighbors of the Samantha community, Dr. Craig Buettner, Dr. Giri, Dr. Duffy, nurses and doctors at Glen Haven Nursing Home & Rehab, members of Sulphur Springs Free Will Church and Oregonia Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lewis and Faye Manderson Cancer Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
