She was preceded in death by her parents, Percy and Mildred Sexton; grandparents, Eddie and Bessie Sexton; husband, Walter Donald Dockery, Sr.; daughter, Judith Carolyn Dockery; granddaughter, Victoria Dockery.
Survivors include her children, Donny Dockery (Cathy), Lisa Dockery, Janet McCracken (Ronald), and Karol Whitehead (Max); grandchildren, Angelica McDuff (Al), Daniel Fleet (Elizabeth), Josh McCracken, Kyle McCracken (Jennifer), Alexis Roberts, and Trey Dockery, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Glenda was a lifelong member of Northport Baptist Church and was proud to be part of seven generations who have attended there. She was given the nickname of "Honey" by her grandfather, who was a beekeeper, and that nickname would become the only name that so many would ever know her by, living up to that name in every way.
So many remember her for her singing voice and can recite their favorite song she sang. She was a wonderful self-taught baker and cook - there was rarely an empty seat at the table with friends and family dropping by at "just the right time."
Family was everything to her. Her mission in life was to please everyone around her, never thinking of herself first.
Her smile and laughter will live on in the hearts of her children and grandchildren and all who knew her. Christmas was one of her favorite times of the year, so how fitting for God to have chosen to take her home at this time.
Our hearts are broken, but in time will slowly mend knowing she is no longer suffering.
To know her was to love her.
"To the world you were a mother, but to your family you were the world."
Pallbearers will be Daniel Fleet, Josh McCracken, Kyle McCracken, Trey Dockery, Max Whitehead, Ronald McCracken, Matthew McDuff, and Al McDuff.
Honorary pallbearers are Ricky Noland, Brenda Jones, Bob McCartney, Hospice of West Alabama, and Caring Days.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Caring Days or Hospice of West Alabama.
