Edna V. Wilson Walker

Edna V. Wilson Walker, age 96 passed away March 20, 2024 at Hospice of West Alabama. She was born in Coffee County, Alabama to Richard and Lula Mae Wilson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands Marshall August Wilson and Harry Henry Walker, her son Marshall Author Wilson, two infant children, and siblings Mae Bell Bass, Charlie Mae Cordle, and Hubert Wilson.

She is survived by her daughter Sallie (John) Watkins of Tuscaloosa, AL; daughter-in-law Sue Wilson of Eclectic, AL; grandchildren Michele (Darrell) Eller of Sylacauga, AL, Michael (Natalie) Wilson of Eclectic, AL, Alicia (Jeffrey) Roberts of Mountain Brook, AL, Melissa (Adam) Lang of Tuscaloosa, AL, and John (Caitlin) Watkins V of Marietta, GA; nine great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Edna was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.  Prior to her marriage to Marshall August Wilson she trained as a nurse at Beard’s Hospital in Troy, AL.  She enrolled later in life at Troy University in Troy, AL where she earned a bachelor of science degree in education.  As a military wife she traveled both in the states and internationally, living in Japan and England for several years.  These experiences of being a military wife and mother led to many career opportunities in health care, business ownership, and education.   Even well after retirement age, she spent 13 years organizing and leading the senior adult ‘Young at Heart’ at Indian Lake Baptist Church in Northport, AL as well as arranging all of the flowers in the church for many years.

Many of her loved ones knew her as “Mee Maw” who loved baking, sewing, gardening, drawing, and creating floral arrangements.  Her artistic and creative ability were well-known among her friends and family.  She was extremely resourceful and devoted her time and talents to her family.  Mee Maw created a cookbook so the legacy of her family recipes would be passed down from generation to generation. Throughout her life, she was also a talented seamstress, always designing and making clothing for others. She was blessed with a green thumb and enjoyed spending time in her garden growing flowers as well as fruits and vegetables. She held her faith very dear and rarely missed a church activity.  Edna strongly believed in the power of prayer.  She frequently organized small bible study groups and had a daily prayer partner.  She was often asked in Sunday school to lead the devotion.  Edna was a very self-reliant individual who lived her last six years in an independent living facility where she was involved in numerous activities, many of which she organized and led.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 26th at 10AM at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home in Northport, AL. followed by the funeral at 11AM.

A graveside service will take place at Campground Methodist Church in Crenshaw County immediately following the funeral. There she will be laid to rest next to her first husband Marshall August Wilson and her two infant children.

Pallbearers will be John Watkins V, Jeffrey Roberts, Michael Wilson, Darrell Eller, and Adam Lang.

Special thanks to her devoted long term sitters Tracey Cameron and Shanae Washington as well as the staff from Hospice of West Alabama.
