Duval Essic Miller | NORTHPORT Duval Essic "D.E."� Miller, age 81, of Northport, died June 13, 2010, at home. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2010, at Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North with Rev. Jerry Croft officiating. Burial will follow in Whitson Place Cemetery with Magnolia Chapel Funeral Home North directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Duval was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Snow Fisher Miller; his parents, Henry Julia and Mary Alice Boler Miller; his brothers, Ira Grayson, Desmer Warren, and Albert Meral Miller; and his sisters, Verna Mae Pruitt and Willie Pearl Shuttlesworth. Survivors include his wife, Marie Kinney Miller; his sons, Edward Daniel Miller (Sheree), Kenith Eugene Miller (Charlene), Jeffrey Duval Miller (Barbara), Dennis D. Layton (Deborah), and Gary H. Layton (Wanda); his daughters, Deborah M. Miklic (Rodney) and Darlene Copen (Mike); his sisters, Betty Phillips (J.B.) and Peggy Wesley (Bob); 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Duval was born October 17, 1928, in Thomaston, Ala. He later moved to Tuscaloosa County for employment at Bryce Hospital and continued working there until his retirement after 30 years. He was also a lifelong farmer and enjoyed raising large gardens and livestock. He loved the outdoors, playing and singing country music, and was an avid hunter. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are former employees of Bryce Hospital, Dr. Craig Buettner, and Amedisys Home Care of Tuscaloosa. Special thanks to his caregiver, Lucy Ray, friends and neighbors of North Hagler Road, and to Ron Beasley for their care and assistance during his extended illness
