Diane Crowder Averette

Diane Crowder Averette, 73 of Tuscaloosa, passed into Heaven to be with her Savior, Jesus on June 5, 2026 at DCH Regional Center. Graveside services will be held at Oak Grove Baptist Church cemetery on Monday, June 8th at 1:00 pm. Brother Albert Lyles will be officiating the service and Magnolia Chapel South will be directing.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mable K. Crowder, her father Gene L. Crowder Sr., her brother Gene L. CrowderJr., and nephew, Gene L. Crowder III.

Diane leaves behind her loving husband of 54 years, Stephen W. Averette Sr., her caring and loving son and daughter, Stephen W. Averette Jr. and Julie Diane Averette, her sister, Lucy Crowder Mills (Terry), and many nieces and nephews.

Diane was born in Tuscaloosa on September 13th, 1952. She lived her entire life in Tuscaloosa graduating from Tuscaloosa High School in 1970. With a career of banking including mortgage lending, her last banking position was with First Federal Bank. Diane’s greatest love was her family and cooking for them. We believe she was the best cook all around. She taught many people how to cook including her “chosen” daughter Deidra Caffee. Deidra’s two girls, Baily Grace and Cooper were her “chosen” granddaughters who she dearly loved. Diane treated them just like her granddaughters and cherished the time she had with them.

Diane enjoyed sewing for her family and friends helping create a beautiful home for them. She also was a member of Community Bible Study studying under her dear friend Linda Beynon. Diane was always up for a girl’s trip so she and her sister were always looking for a place to go.

Pallbearers will be John Caffee, Jonathan Mills, Chad Jaggers, Lehman Jaggers, Russell Averette, and her son Steve Averette who said it is a true honor to be her pallbearer.

Honorary Pallbearers are Members of her CBS Bible Study and DCH-RMC MICU-1 nurses and staff. They performed above and beyond the call of duty for Diane and her Family.
