 Bernice Stewart Abernathy, age 87, of Tuscaloosa, died August 18, 2023, at her home in Tuscaloosa. The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Magnolia Chapel South with Rev. Gil McKee officiating. Visitation will be from 12-2 p.m. prior to the memorial service on Tuesday, August 22nd.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Brown Abernathy, Sr.; Her Parents, Charles and Audie Mae Stewart; her brothers, Charles Milton Stewart, Bert Stewart, Bill Stewart, Jackie Stewart, and Dale Stewart; her Sister, Gayle Ellen (Stewart) Earnest; her Grandson, George Brown Abernathy III; and her Beloved Aunt “Tee” Morrison.

Survivors include her sons, Buster Abernathy (Renee) of Charlotte, N.C.; Ron Abernathy of Tuscaloosa; her daughter, Missy Atkins (Tosh) of Tuscaloosa; her Brother, John (Jeanette) Stewart of Helena; and her grandchildren, Luke Abernathy, Brett Abernathy, Colt Threadgill, Savannah Galloway (Jake), Stewart Abernathy, Berkley Bryant, Jackson Abernathy, Hunter Atkins, Austin Atkins (Amanda), Abbie Atkins, Raegan Walker (Joey), Bennett Atkins, and Matthew Atkins; and one great grandson, Grady Galloway.

Mrs. Abernathy was born September 26, 1935, in Siluria and graduated from McAdory High School in 1953 and Burrough Business College. She was employed as a Bookkeeper with Standard Oil Company, Central Foundry, and Tennis Jackson Electric. In her free time, she would volunteer at her children’s schools. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and watching the Atlanta Braves Baseball and University of Alabama Football. She loved spending time with her friends at Morning Pointe and making new friendships with everyone who passed in the halls.

 Pallbearers will be grandsons Brett, Colt, Hunter, Austin, Stewart, Jackson, Bennett, and Matthew.

Honorary pallbearers are the staff of Morning Pointe and Dr. Brian Wilhite and his staff at Northriver Internal Medicine.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to SouthernCare Hospice or Morning Pointe Foundation.
