Basil Franklin Lee, 83, of Northport, Alabama, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026.
Basil was born on December 18, 1942, in Northport, Alabama, to James Collier Lee and Mary Francis Powell Lee. Throughout his life, Basil was known for his kind heart, strong work ethic, and deep love for his family.
Basil spent much of his career in hospitality management, helping start and operate Morrison's Cafeterias across the country. After retiring, he moved back to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where he later worked part-time at Med-South.
He was a faithful member of Church of the Highlands and enjoyed tinkering with just about anything, cooking, and all things Alabama - especially Alabama football. He loved spending time with his family and sharing stories, recipes, and memories throughout the years, but most importantly, being a "Poppa."
Basil is survived by his children: Johnny Lee, Shellie Lee, Hardy Lee, and Mary Castle; eight grandchildren: Britnee Lee, Tyler Lee, Cole Castle, Ava Castle, Katee Castle, Isaac Lee, Aaron Lee, and Derick Weedon; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Collier Lee and Mary Francis Powell Lee; his daughter, Brandi Weedon; his son, Jimmy Lee; and his sister, Patricia Allen.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
