Obituary

Barbara Ann Green Fields, who turned 88 on Thursday, October 29, 2026, passed away at home on Saturday, October 31, 2026. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at Memory Hill Gardens, with Magnolia Funeral Home North directing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, E.L. and Sara Ann Green; son-in-law, Joe Taylor; and special sister-in-law, Louise Green.

Barbara was a devoted member and loyal servant of Northport Church of Christ for many years. In 2013, she became an active part of the “Baby Boggins” group, founded at the church that same year. She spent countless hours knitting boggins for cancer patients, NICU babies, and the homeless, as well as for a mission outreach that stretched from Alaska to Africa. She also enjoyed crocheting kitchen cloths, which she lovingly shared with friends and family.

Although her most recent years were spent at home “just being lazy,” she was far from lazy, having completed a 44-year career in dentistry. After retiring from dentistry, she worked for many years as a receptionist in the Extended Day program at Tuscaloosa Magnet Schools-Elementary, always happy to share a story or a picture of her precious students.

Nana rarely missed an event her grandchildren were involved in. She adored them and cherished every opportunity to dote on them throughout their childhood. No visit ended without a handful of treasures: newspaper clippings she thought might interest you, a piece of mail, an assortment of leftovers, or even a frozen bottle of Propel water. Come every holiday, Nana’s kitchen overflowed. Two or three dishes of each of our favorites stretched from one end of the counter to the other, because when Nana cooked, she really cooked. She will be remembered for her generous heart, her loving kitchen, and the family she held together. Her presence will be deeply missed, but the memories left to share are plentiful.

Survivors include her daughters, Tawana Taylor and Tonya Fields; her son, Todd Fields (Aprile); her grandchildren, Brody Taylor, Molly Taylor, Anna Patterson, Mack Fields, and Maggie Fields; her brother, Jerry Green; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Todd Fields, Brody Taylor, Mack Fields, David Green, Chad Green, and Lance Green.

Honorary pallbearers are Northport Church of Christ, Janice Hubbard, the family of Dick and Mary Jo Looser, Agnes Freeman and family, Mary Ann Moody and family, Michael and Brittany Whitworth, friends and neighbors of 26th Avenue, Steve Bridges, Dr. Arti Panday, and Enhabit Home Health and Hospice, to whom the family owes its deepest gratitude for their recent care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in memory of Barbara Fields to the Baby Boggins Group at Northport Church of Christ, 2700 44th Avenue, Northport, AL 35475.
