Alvin Monroe Tidmore, 86 of Moundville, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at his China Grove residence. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 10,2025 at 2:00 pm at China Grove Church Cemetery with Rev. Michael Cobb officiating and Magnolia Chapel South directing.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth T. Tidmore, stepson; Ernie (Buster) Roulaine, parents; Monroe and Pauline Tidmore, sisters; Muriel T. Essary and Sarah T. Smelley and his timeless friend and mentor, Odis Tucker.

Alvin is survived by his stepsons; Jimmy Dell Roulaine and wife Angie, Bob Roulaine and wife Nancy, sister, Ruth T. Whitley, brother, Raymond M. Tidmore and wife Kathie, as well as many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Alvin was a graduate of Hale County High School and attended The University of Alabama but realized he did not have a desire for a college education, disappointing his mother especially who dreamed of him becoming a doctor.

He served his Country in the U.S. Army stationed in Fort Hood, Texas where his primary duty involved truck driving, a skill he learned at an early age. He had numerous special driving assignments because of his reputation for abstinence from alcohol.

After completing his service, he returned to his China Grove Community , married Ruth and began his life-long work of cutting timber, pulpwood and firewood. His recount of his logging skills was impressive.

Alvin was the last member of China Grove Methodist Church where he oversaw the upkeep of the church and cemetery, doing much of the labor himself when necessary.

He was know for his willingness to help in times of need. When trees fell across the road or drivers needed help, Alvin was there with a chainsaw to remove fallen limbs and chains for pulling vehicles out of ditches.

He was strongly opinionated with a deep love for the China Grove Community. Alvin was honest and generous with his time. His chainsaw operation skill was well known as was his ability to figure out a way to move just about anything by himself.

He fed countless dogs and cats that were abandoned or dropped off on China Grove Road and ended up at his house. He will be missed by many who have stories of how Alvin helped them.

Pallbearers are Bob Roulaine, Mark Tidmore, Scott Tidmore, Michael Tidmore, Jerry Tucker, and Brian Whitley.

Honorary pallbearers are the Barks Family, Davis Family and Jerry Wade Family, all China Grove neighbors, Doug and Sue Nelson, Anne Pierce, Joey Smithson Family, Mac Taylor Family, Liberty Community neighbors, and Jimmy Dell and Angie Roulaine.

The family extends thanks to Jerry Tucker for being there at the time of greatest helpfulness.
